Brandon Drawz: Swimming is One of the Best Sports for Your Child

As a parent, your main concern naturally is your child’s health and overall well-being. A wide range of sports are available for your children to explore, but one of the top ones is swimming. It’s an excellent area for getting your child’s feet wet, so to speak, when it comes to youth sports. Here are a few core benefits of plugging your child into swimming, according to Brandon Drawz, swimming expert and president of the Husky Swimming Foundation.

First, swimming will teach your child how to lose with humility and grace. No one enjoys losing, but unfortunately, everyone will lose at something at some point. Your child might as well become accustomed to it while participating in a fun sport that is a reward in and of itself.

Second, when your child joins a local swim team, he or she will end up expanding his or her friends circle. In fact, you may do the same with your own social circle, so it’s a win-win for you both. Swimming on a team will ultimately boost your child’s social skills, which will no doubt help your child on both a personal and a professional level long term.

Third, swimming is one of the most enjoyable forms of exercise. After all, who doesn’t enjoy splashing in a cold pool on a hot summer’s day? And there’s nothing like the adrenaline rush that comes with trying to beat your previously attained time and enhance your swimming technique. Your child will probably be more easily persuaded to go swimming than to go running, for example.

Finally, joining a local swim team will give your child a taste of what friendly competition looks like. With the right swimming experience, your child will be well on his or her way to growing physically, socially, and emotionally this year.

Brandon Drawz, Swimming Expert: You Can’t Hold Alexei Sancov Back

Outstanding swimmer Alexei Sancov has already acknowledged his commitment to the University of Southern California next season. And as though he were trying to reassure University of Southern California swimmers that accepting him to swim with them was a smart move, he made a splash at the recent 2017 Husky Invitation that took place in December of last year.

Sancov, who is currently training with the exceptional Terrapins Swim Team, achieved some of the best swim times during multiple Husky Invite events held over the course of a weekend. He is demonstrating right before our eyes that he is among the speediest incoming freshmen to enter the National Collegiate Athletic Association system, according to Brandon Drawz, swimming expert and the leader of a consulting company.

Sancov posted superb times of 42.68 for the 100 free, 4:14.25 for the 500, and 1:33.59 for the 200. His times for the 500 and 100 are 1.1 seconds and .3 second, respectively, faster than those of another top high school swimmer: Drew Kibler. This high schooler, who hails from the Hoosier State, has already expressed his commitment to the University of Texas.

Sancov is additionally strokes ahead of Patrick Callan, who is headed to Michigan next season. Callan’s best times were 4:14.6 and 1:34.0. At the same time, Sancov outswam Trey Freeman, whose times were 4:16.9 and 1:34.9. Freeman is headed to Florida. All in all, the 500/200/100 freestyle strength within the 2018 high school class is undeniably incredible. Sancov’s tip-top performances over the course of the Husky Invite weekend only confirmed this.

Sancov additionally split an eye-catching 19.90 on his team’s 200 free relay. And he swam his lifetime bests in butterfly races with times of 1:44.77 and 47.32. He also achieved a brand-new personal record in his 200 IM with a time of 1:47.43. His future as a swimmer will no doubt be bright in the months and years ahead.

Brandon Drawz, Swimming President: Many Dominate Husky Invite

A large number of young people made huge waves in the competitive swimming world during the recent 2017 Husky Invitation held in December. The invite, which took place from December 1 to 3 in Washington, offered many high schoolers the chance to display their swimming skills and further make a name for themselves as many prepare to head to college campuses next season, according to Brandon Drawz, swimming aficionado and president of the Husky Swimming Foundation.

One of the most outstanding athletes at the invite was Alexei Sancov, who plans to swim for the University of Southern California next season and is currently training with the highly reputed Terrapins Swim Team. He achieved the best times in multiple invite events and is arguably one of the fastest freshman entering the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Other noteworthy swimmers from the 2017 Husky Invitation include Andrei Minakov, 15, who is Sancov’s Terrapins teammate. Minakov is currently the record holder for the 13-14 100M fly national age group, and the athlete’s 100Y fly from the invite weekend put him in fourth place all-time in the age group of 15- to 16-year-olds.

The University of California, Santa Barbara also enjoyed a solid meet in December. Billy Mullis achieved a time of around 141 and thus won the 200 back. In addition, Mason Title achieved a 19.61 time to dominate the 50 free, and Logan Hotchkiss achieved a time of around 15:03 to win the 1650 free.

The Husky Swimming Foundation is currently raising funds in the hopes of offering a yearly operating budget for a resurrected University of Washington intercollegiate swimming program.
