Brandon Drawz: Swimming is One of the Best Sports for Your Child

As a parent, your main concern naturally is your child’s health and overall well-being. A wide range of sports are available for your children to explore, but one of the top ones is swimming. It’s an excellent area for getting your child’s feet wet, so to speak, when it comes to youth sports. Here are a few core benefits of plugging your child into swimming, according to Brandon Drawz, swimming expert and president of the Husky Swimming Foundation.

First, swimming will teach your child how to lose with humility and grace. No one enjoys losing, but unfortunately, everyone will lose at something at some point. Your child might as well become accustomed to it while participating in a fun sport that is a reward in and of itself.

Second, when your child joins a local swim team, he or she will end up expanding his or her friends circle. In fact, you may do the same with your own social circle, so it’s a win-win for you both. Swimming on a team will ultimately boost your child’s social skills, which will no doubt help your child on both a personal and a professional level long term.

Third, swimming is one of the most enjoyable forms of exercise. After all, who doesn’t enjoy splashing in a cold pool on a hot summer’s day? And there’s nothing like the adrenaline rush that comes with trying to beat your previously attained time and enhance your swimming technique. Your child will probably be more easily persuaded to go swimming than to go running, for example.

Finally, joining a local swim team will give your child a taste of what friendly competition looks like. With the right swimming experience, your child will be well on his or her way to growing physically, socially, and emotionally this year.
